Serbia

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation visited Serbia for the first time in 1994 and started to support a number of organisations in Belgrade. Our involvement in Serbia has developed over time and today we have a field office in Belgrade where we co-ordinate our support to different women's organisations across the country. During the election campaign in 2000 we supported several women's organisations in their work to promote female politicians.

We support activities such as protection for victims of domestic violence and education for women in languages and technology. Some of our partner organisations do preventive work to combat trafficking, while others run centres for Roma women. Again others set up support hotlines, such as the one run by a trade union's women's section. We encourage and support networking between different women's organisations as well as between women politicians and entrepreneurs.

In 1999, Kvinna till Kvinna initiated contact with a number of women's organisations in Montenegro. We started supporting a Montenegrin organisation that worked with Serb and Roma refugees from Kosovo. The support now has expanded to include organisations that work with education and empowerment of Albanian women and Roma women. Since 2002 we also support a forum for education in issues related to gender equality. Our field office in Belgrade is also co-ordinating our activities in Montenegro.
