Kosovo
Kosovo celebrates independence
Kvinna The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation first visited Kosovo in 1994 and since 1998 we have a field office in Pristina. After the war, there was a big need for psychosocial support to women who suffer from war traumas, but hopefully public insitutions will take over that kind of support in the long run. Nowadays the support focus more and more on political organisations who work with lobbying and gender research, feminism and women's rights.
Despite progressive legislation, women's possibilities are much more limited than men's. Traditional values make it difficult to change women's situation. Several of our partners therefore work to improve women's participation in decision-making processes. To improve awareness of gender equality in society, a host of organisations offer courses and workshops on women's rights directed at all ethnic groups.
