Egypt has not played an active part in the conflicts in the Middle East region, but the country is affected by the conflicts and also has an influence on general developments in the region. Peace, democratic progress, empowering of rights and rebuilding must encompass entire regions if long-term stability is to be maintained. The involvement of the Egyptian women's movement is crucial as a stability factor in the region, but also as a source of inspiration to women's organisations in the other countries in the region.

The Egyptian women's movement is seen by many as a role model and torchbearer in the Arab women's rights movement and Egypt is one of few countries in the region where the women's movement has managed to bring about changes in the law.

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation today collaborates with three women's organisations in Egypt, all of which have a strategic significance for the regional debate on peace efforts, the, secularisation of legislation and the ability of the women's movement to resist the growing fundamentalist powers in the region. Support is not only in the shape of networking in the region but also goes to developing the organisations as they cannot expect any government support.

During the so called Arabic spring, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation's cooperation with women's rights activists in Egypt intensified. Due to the changed situation in the country after the revolution in 2011, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation will expand its programme in Egypt and in 2012 we will open a field office will be established.
