Liberia

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has cooperated with women’s organisations in Liberia since 2007. We opened an office in the capital Monrovia in 2011 and Kvinna till Kvinna is now one of the few Swedish organisations working on the ground in Liberia.

Liberia has a history of violence, armed conflict and high unemployment. Although a peace treaty was negotiated in 2003, many social problems remain. Sexual violence, domestic violence, inadequacies in the legal system and the exclusion of women from political decision-making are particularly important women’s rights issues.

Kvinna till Kvinna supports projects that teach women about their domestic, political, social and legal rights. Our partner organisation, the Centre for Liberian Assistance (CLA), was awarded the Anna Lindh Prize (established in honour of the former Swedish foreign minister Anna Lindh) in 2011 for its work on empowering and educating vulnerable young women in Monrovia.
