Bosnia - Herzegovina

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has co-operated with women's organisations in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1994 and we have a field office in Sarajevo. We have at close hand followed the development of the women's movement in the country. During and after the war, we worked first and foremost to support women's centres that provided women with psychosocial support and health counselling. Today, an increasing number of our partner organisations work politically to improve legislation and women's status in society and the co-operation between women's organisations improving.

Kvinna till Kvinna supports women's organisations that work in various ways with women's empowerment and to enhance women's position in society. They create, for instance, meeting places for women from different ethnic groups and for women returning home after the war. Other services that women's organisations provide include psychosocial support, free legal counselling, vocational training to increase women's opportunities to make a living, information about women's rights and education for politically active women. Some organisations focus primarily on the problems of violence against women and trafficking in humans for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
